Graphite Ore

Type of graphite:
The mineral graphite is an allotrope of carbon. Graphite is an electrical conductor, a semimetal. Its formula is C and the occurs as Iron black to steel gray color or some time is deep blue in transmitted light. Granite is very soft and its mosh hardness is just 1-2 with the density is 2.09-2.23 t/m3
There are three principal types of natural graphite, each occurring in different types of ore deposit:

Crystalline flake graphite (or flake graphite for short) occurs as isolated, flat, plate-like particles with hexagonal edges if unbroken and when broken the edges can be irregular or angular;
Aphanitic graphite occurs as fine particles is sometimes called meta-anthracite. Very fine flake graphite is sometimes called amorphous in the trade;
Lump graphite (also called vein graphite) occurs in fissure veins or fractures and appears as massive platy intergrowths of fibrous or acicular crystalline aggregates, and is probably hydrothermal in origin.

The Solution for processing graphite ore:
Generally speaking, flotation is the most popular way for graphite ore beneficiation, especially for flake graphite. Usually in order to protect the big flake in graphite by repeated regrinding and floating (up to seven times) to purify the concentrate.

For Vein Graphite, it also takes the flotation method. Because there is no need to worrying about the big flake, so there is no need to multistage grinding and flotation. There are always some amorphous graphite(15%~25%) combined with vein graphite, so the floating time should be longer. This is also the reason why vein graphite should be grinded to very fine size.
For amorphous graphite, as the grade of amorphous graphite is usually very high, so after hand selecting the mineral gangue, the amorphous graphite grade can be high enough as final product. Sometimes flotation method is also used for this kind graphite beneficiation. But the recovery rate is quite low and the tailing is still useful for Low-quality casting graphite.
