How hard a material can a hammer mill crush?

The capability of a hammer mill to crush materials depends largely on the design and configuration of the hammer mill itself, as well as the material properties. Generally, hammer mills can handle materials ranging from soft (like grains and biomass) to moderately hard substances (such as limestone and gypsum).

However, extremely hard materials, like metals or certain types of stones, might pose significant challenges and could potentially cause wear and tear on the mill's hammers and other components. For such tough materials, specialized equipment like jaw crushers or impact crushers might be more suitable. Always refer to the manufacturer's specifications and recommendations to understand the specific capabilities and limitations of your particular hammer mill model.
